Social Listening

For this blog post, I decided to do the Canadian Video Game company Behaviour Interactive, and I chose this company because I am one of their customers for their video game Dead by Daylight. Being involved with the game, I am always up to date on the company news, along with the player feedback to updates and what are called "chapters", which is the style of DLC this game uses. What makes this game (and company structure) quite intriguing is the fact that many other companies have tried to make the same style of game, that being an asymmetrical 1 vs 4 game, but each company that attempts to create a similar game ends up not being anywhere near popular, if the game manages to live longer than a year. What makes this easier on Behaviour Interactive, however more difficult on the player base, is that because Behaviour knows people are going to play their game no matter what, they are able to get away with quite lousy behavior (get it?). Spaghetti Coding (coding with such lack o...

Ari Aster's "Beau is Afraid"

Image
For this week's blog, I chose to write about the comedy horror just released called "Beau is Afraid", directed by critically acclaimed director Ari Aster, and starring renowned actor Joaquin Phoenix. A lot has been riding on this film, since it has been four years since Aster directed a film, that being Midsommar, and six years since his directorial debut, Hereditary. With a release date of April 21st, a lot of hardcore Aster fans (such as myself) have been drooling just waiting for its release.     From what is known, the film has a simple premise: a man is visiting his mother. However, the "Aster" twist is that the main character (Phoenix) is a case of what happens when someone who is extremely mentally ill is left unchecked, and the film is portrayed through his ...

Aidan D'Card About Me

Image
Hey Everyone, my name is Aidan D'Card and I am a Graphic Design major attending Linn-Benton Community College. I grew up in a small town called Gig Harbor, Washington, however I just tell people I'm from Tacoma since it's more well-known and is less embarrassing to say. I decided to take this class for a funny reason: to reverse-engineer and have a better understanding how companies choose to manipulate me into buying their products, as some things I value is the choice and freedom of the human mind. I find the manipulation companies use to coerce us into purchasing unnecessary products a bit intruding, and grasping a better understanding of how these tactics are used I feel will help craft me into a less-impulsive and less wasteful human being. Some activities I love are listening to music equipped with a glass of wine or a nice indica joint (I'm of age), listening to artists such as Daniel Caesar, FKJ, or Jacob Collier, and having deep conversations with friends, pee...
